Notable Tesla aftermarket company Unplugged Performance's UP.FIT division has taken the wraps off its latest creation: a mad Tesla Cybertruck police vehicle.
Designed to push the boundaries of modern policing, this electric ute boasts a suite of law enforcement features aiming to revolutionise the field. With deliveries expected to commence later this year, the Cybertruck police ute is set to hit the streets soon, albeit with some concerns about its reliability.
Dystopian design meets practicality
Resembling a vehicle straight out of a sci-fi film like 1995's Judge Dredd, the Cybertruck police ute is equipped with emergency lights, a siren and 18-inch wheels fitted with pursuit-rated tyres.
The futuristic design is not just for show, however, it’s backed by serious functionality. The vehicle can be customised with a range of law enforcement necessities such as police radios, computers, prisoner partitions, K9 enclosures and even weapon storage.
Moreover, the Cybertruck police ute can be tailored for more specialised roles, including tactical, military or search and rescue missions. This flexibility makes it a versatile addition to any police fleet.
Performance and customisation
UP.FIT has highlighted several customisation options for the Cybertruck, enhancing its capabilities for various scenarios.
The electric ute can be fitted with upgraded braking systems and specialised wheel and tyre packages. For departments requiring robust internet connectivity, Starlink is an available option.
Additionally, the vehicle can be equipped with upgrades for extreme off-road usage, ensuring it can handle a wide array of terrains and conditions.
The Cybertruck will be available in three variants: Patrol, Admin and Tactical. Each variant boasts an impressive range of 547km and a rapid 0 to 96km/h acceleration time of 2.6 seconds.
The Patrol variant, specifically, comes with a siren, emergency lights, a spotlight, and a redesigned centre console packed with controls.
High hopes and anticipation
Unplugged Performance is already accepting orders and anticipates delivering the first units by the end of the year.
The company reports significant interest from law enforcement agencies across the United States. Ben Schaffer, CEO of Unplugged Performance, expressed his enthusiasm: “The UP.FIT Cybertruck Next-Gen Patrol vehicle represents a significant engineering leap into the future, and we’re excited to offer law enforcement agencies the future of policing.”
He added, “We’ve been thrilled with the direct feedback from police departments that have participated in our Cybertruck development, and we look forward to deploying these complete UP.FIT vehicles to law enforcement agencies across the nation this year.”
We don't know about you, but we'd still take a vintage Mitsubishi Flying Wedge over this newfangled contraption.
