Land Rover is promising "V8 levels of power" with zero exhaust emissions from the new full-size Range Rover Electric, with the fine detail of the powertrain now confirmed.

This is your full size, which is not to be confused with the smaller Range Rover Sport Electric announced earlier this year. Or the Range Rover GT EV, which is a different thing entirely.

Land Rover New Zealand is yet to advise launch timing or pricing, but it's already inviting potential buyers to join a waiting list to "have an opportunity to be among the first to place a pre-order in 2026". So kind of a pre-ordering for a spot to place a pre-order. For when ordering opens.

The Range Rover platform was designed for electric power from the outset. The new model features twin 260kW electric motors generating up to 404kW/850Nm.

Use cases include towing your fabulously expensive Riva speedboat to a lovely day at the lake.

It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds, with overtaking from 80-120km/h in 2.7sec. 

The "double stack" battery has a massive 118.5kWh capacity. The official WLTP range is 600km, and the company is claiming "real world" use of 535km. It can charge at up to 350kW.

Technologies in the vehicle include Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), which distributes rear torque from 100% to zero to prevent loss of traction, and Integrated Traction Management (ITM) which controls motor speed within 50 milliseconds and manages slip up to 100 times quicker than an ICE vehicle equivalent. 

ITM works in concert with the Single Pedal mode, providing control to "smoothly pull away" up to 33 degrees with ease – a slope as steep as a black-diamond ski run, says Land Rover – or complete a rolling climb ascend up to 45-degree slopes.

From next year, owners will be able to use a new Range Rover App. This can be used to "initiate cabin purification or the heated steering wheel, check their vehicle is locked, its live location and look at the current charge status and predicted driving range."

First orders will be available for short and long-wheelbase models in HSE, Autobiography and SV specifications. The company is also promoting its Range Rover Bespoke service, which offers "extended choice of near-limitless paint colours and finishes, elevated materials, tailored colour combinations and personalisation details including unique embroidery."

The Range Rover Electric is being built at Solihull in the UK, home to the model since its introduction in 1970. The factory has been extensively upgraded for the new-generation models, with "advanced manufacturing, digital technology and a major investment in electrification skills. 

"Powering this transformation, 9000 manufacturing employees in Solihull have now been upskilled for  electrification, with a further 1500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands footprint."
