After two years, the AMG One returned to Nurburgring and proved itself yet again.

In a remarkable display of cutting-edge engineering, the Mercedes-AMG One has shattered its own Nurburgring-Nordschleife lap record.

Two years after setting an unprecedented benchmark of 6:35.183 in October 2022, the hybrid hypercar returned to the 'Green Hell' to post a mind-boggling time of 6:29.090.

This electrifying lap not only trims five seconds from the previous record but also marks the first time a production car has broken the 6:30-minute barrier.

Racing ace Maro Engel, who piloted the AMG One during both record attempts, credited the lap's success to favourable conditions on the day.

On September 23, 2024, the 20.8-km track was completely dry, with ambient temperatures at 15°C and asphalt readings of 20°C.

Engel, a seasoned DTM driver and AMG ambassador, remarked that the earlier 2022 attempt had been hindered by damp patches.

This time, however, he could fully exploit the car's “maximum potential”.
"The track was in perfect condition," said Engel. "It allowed us to push harder, with the car performing exactly as we expected."

Of course, the Mercedes-AMG One boasts Formula One-derived technology. At its core is a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine, complemented by four electric motors, which together churn out an impressive 782kW.

For this record run, the car was dialled into 'Race Plus' mode, which enhances its handling by lowering the front and rear axles and optimising the active aerodynamics.

Engel deftly employed the car’s Drag Reduction System (DRS), squeezing every bit of power from the AMG One's hybrid battery system. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres, specifically designed for the AMG One, also played a key role, providing the necessary grip for such a daring performance.

The Mercedes-AMG One now reigns supreme as the fastest production car at Nurburgring, further blurring the line between hypercar and full-blown racecar.
