Turbo ute meets roofless safari SUV

  • Nissan has revealed three off-road show concepts for SEMA, with none offered for sale.
  • The Frontier Ronin combines a twin-turbo V6 with a wider track and raised suspension.
  • Armada Jungle Patrol loses its roof, while Pathfinder XE-V6 adopts retro stripes and off-road hardware.

Nissan's latest off-road concepts take three rather different routes away from the showroom: a twin-turbo ute, a retro-striped Pathfinder and an Armada with its roof removed.

The Frontier Ronin, Pathfinder XE-V6 and Armada Jungle Patrol have been revealed for the SEMA show in Las Vegas, running from 3–6 November. All are show concepts, and Nissan explicitly says they are not for sale.

Ronin gets wider, taller and turbocharged

The Frontier Ronin gets a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6. Nissan has not disclosed its output.

Parts from the larger Titan help widen the track by 305mm, while the suspension lift exceeds 102mm. The tyres measure approximately 889mm in diameter and sit on prototype Nismo Ascend beadlock wheels.

The changes extend beyond stance. Upgraded brakes, lights, protective sliders and a spare-wheel carrier form part of the build, with bucket seats and additional gauges inside.

This is the US-market Frontier, a different vehicle from the Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid.

Retro Pathfinder, open-air Armada

The Pathfinder XE-V6 takes a more nostalgic approach for the model's fortieth anniversary. Red, black, charcoal and silver stripes reference the Patrol's appearance in the 1980s, paired with a 102mm suspension lift and prototype wheels.

Off-road bumpers, a roof rack and a rear swing-out spare-wheel carrier complete its equipment list.

The Armada Jungle Patrol is harder to mistake for an ordinary SUV. Its roof has been removed, replaced by a tubular roll cage, while inward-facing benches change the passenger layout.

It also gets approximately 940mm-diameter tyres, custom long-travel suspension, steel bumpers, flared guards and Nismo lighting. Between the open cabin and substantial chassis changes, it is the most visibly transformed member of Nissan's three-concept display.
