The Mercedes-AMG One has been around for six years, but it's still giving the German automaker plenty of headaches. After more than a few delays, it's now finally in production.
One motorist in England recently spotted a pile of metal and ashes where an AMG One used to be, and it's just unfortunate news all around. A Mercedes spokesperson divulged to The Sun that they are "aware of this incident involving a car that was being transported in a closed trailer as part of its assembly process."
Apparently, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, being that the vehicle was on a tow truck or transport vehicle at the time. For that reason, many have assumed that the fire originated from the lithium-ion battery packs, which are notoriously challenging to put out once ablaze.
The AMG One is built and assembled in the UK before heading to Germany for customer delivery. While the AMG One has been in production since last year, we don't know how many customers have received their vehicles.
This incident is only the latest misfortune for a vehicle that has seemed doomed from the start. Will the Mercedes-AMG One ever find its footing?
