The BYD Shark 6 ute is being recalled for rectification of the spare wheel lift assembly. According to the New Zealnd Transport Agency Safety Recalls database, BYD has identified an issue where "incorrect installation of the spare wheel, incorrect positioning of the spare wheel tray or insufficient fastening torque may cause abnormal wear of the spare wheel support cable".
Continued movement and friction during driving may cause the cable to fracture, resulting in the spare wheel detaching.
The recall applies to a range of Shark 6 vehicles produced between 29 August 2024 and 15 June 2026.
The applicable vehicles will have the spare wheel lifter assembly replaced with an updated design, free of charge to the customer. To continue driving the vehicle until that time, owners are advised to remove the spare wheel.
