Xiaomi’s second act in the EV market is here, and it’s an SUV.

Xiaomi has revealed the production version of its second vehicle, the YU7 SUV, as the company applied for its sales licence in China.

Alongside the debut of official images and key specifications, the announcement marks another significant step in Xiaomi’s growing presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market, following the release of its first-ever model, the SU7 and its high-performance variant, the SU7 Ultra.

The YU7 SUV will be manufactured at Xiaomi’s sole facility in Beijing’s Yizhuang district. Homologation filings submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) confirmed the vehicle’s final specifications and design.

In China, automakers are required to submit their vehicles for regulatory approval before release, with the MIIT publicly disclosing application details monthly.

Xiaomi strategically released its official images moments after MIIT’s publication, avoiding reliance on typically unflattering government-provided visuals.

The Xiaomi YU7 is a fully electric SUV featuring dual electric motors delivering a combined 508kW. A 220kW motor powers the front axle, while a 288kW motor drives the rear, allowing the SUV to reach a top speed of 253km/h. Energy is stored in a lithium NMC battery supplied by CATL, although details about capacity remain undisclosed.

The vehicle’s dimensions emphasise its spacious design, measuring 4999 mm in length, 1996mm in width, and 1600mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Despite a curb weight of 2405 kg, the YU7 promises robust performance.

The YU7 follows the success of Xiaomi’s first EV, the SU7 sedan, launched in March 2024. With over 112,000 units delivered in China between March and November, the SU7 exceeded initial sales targets. Xiaomi aims to deliver 130,000 units by year-end.

The YU7 is slated for a mid-2025 release, with pricing expected to range between ¥250,000 and ¥350,000 (roughly NZ$58,800 to NZ$82,400).

Positioned as a rival to the Tesla Model Y, which starts at ¥249,900 (NZ$58,800) in China, the YU7 signals Xiaomi’s intent to expand its competitive footprint in the EV market.
