Chinese tech powerhouse Xiaomi is wasting no time in expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup.
Hot on the heels of the successful launch of its debut EV, the SU7 sedan, Xiaomi is reportedly gearing up to unveil its second model, an electric SUV codenamed MX11, as early as October this year.
Stylish electric SUV
While technical details remain under wraps, spy shots suggest the MX11 will draw heavily from the sleek design language of the SU7 sedan.
However, it's expected to sport a more muscular stance, akin to the Ferrari Purosangue, offering increased interior space and practicality. It may even borrow elements from the recently unveiled SU7 Ultra, a more track-focused version of the SU7.
The MX11's dimensions are anticipated to be relatively compact compared to other SUVs in the market, hinting at a focus on urban agility and manoeuvrability.
Unanswered questions
The underpinnings of the MX11 remain shrouded in mystery. While it's plausible that Xiaomi will leverage the same 'Modena' platform as the SU7, some sources suggest a new platform could be in play.
Intriguingly, there's speculation that this new platform could accommodate a range-extender powertrain, potentially incorporating a small internal combustion engine (ICE) to supplement the electric motor and alleviate range anxiety.
If the rumours hold true, Xiaomi's decision to unveil the MX11 in October alongside a slew of new consumer electronics products could be a strategic move.
It would not only amplify the brand's presence in the burgeoning EV market but also solidify its image as a tech innovator across various domains.
With customer deliveries of the SU7 commencing less than five months ago, Xiaomi's rapid development of its second EV model highlights its aggressive ambitions in the electric mobility space.
