There will be no shortage of highly modified examples of the latest Toyota Land Cruiser Prado as the new-gen model establishes itself across the world, but here's the closest thing yet to an extreme 4x4 Prado with a factory stamp of approval: the AT37 by Arctic Trucks.

It's totally legit; you even get lava badging.

Even if you're not into driving axle-deep in snow, you've probably heard of Arctic Trucks. It was founded in 1990 as a division of Toyota in Iceland, modifying vehicles for harsh environments (later separated out into its own business).

It became globally famous as the maker of the Toyota Hilux that featured in the 2007 Top Gear Polar Special (aka Polar Challenge), in which Jeremy Clarkson and James May purported to drive to the North Magnetic Pole and definitely drank gin and tonic.

The Land Cruiser Prado AT37 has been developed between the Arctic Trucks International (Iceland) and UK divisions, with help from Toyota Africa distributor, CFAO.

What makes this the ultimate Land Cruiser Prado?

The "AT37" name comes from its 37-inch 4x4 tyres. These are wrapped around Arctic Trucks' retro-inspired Heritage forged alloy wheels.

It's a totally functional extreme 4x4, but it doesn't hurt to look super-cool as well.

Improved "suspension effect" from the AT37’s taller, wider tyres is combined with a bespoke 2-way adjustable performance suspension system, providing increased travel and 40mm of lift.

Developed in partnership with Dakar-winning specialist R53 Suspension, large diameter monotube dampers feature high tensile hard chrome steel shafts, enhanced sealing, matched springs and hydraulic bump stops.

AT37 is all about those monster 37in tyres; it's even named after them.

Low friction, nano-enhanced oil flow from external reservoirs is further enhanced by R53’s OptiFlow technology.

To accommodate the significant increase in tyre size, Arctic Trucks has reprofiled the Land Cruiser’s frame, body, bodywork and drivetrain.

No price quoted, but we think it might be in the 'if you have to ask' category.

The widebody flares incorporate a tyre pressure guide/central tyre inflation system connection recess in all four corners.

The extended profile side steps have an extruded aluminium profile, high-grip rubberised inserts and durable end caps, for ease of replacement.

There is Arctic Trucks black and lava badging and detailing through the bodywork, wheels and interior, which features unique gear selector and dash trims.

The 2-inch multifunction receiver hitch, used on most Arctic Trucks 4x4s, enables quick fitment of towballs, winches, steps, seats, gear carriers... or barbeques.

AT says the truck is "aligned with OEM and government standards of fit, finish and functionality". It will be available as an official dealership-supplied version or direct customer conversion in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa.
