A Nissan Qashqai e-Power has travelled 1,980 km through Colombia without stopping for fuel or external charging, earning a new Guinness World Records title in the process.
A record across Colombia
The run began in Bogotá and finished on Colombia's Caribbean coast. It took place between 14 and 17 July 2026, with the Qashqai completing the full journey on one tank.
Guinness World Records judges independently monitored every stage before granting certification. The exact category is the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric SUV without external charging or refuelling — a very specific title, but one that neatly describes how the Qashqai's powertrain operates.
The result confirms the distance achieved during this monitored attempt. Nissan has not disclosed the test car's fuel-tank volume or an official consumption figure, so the 1980 km journey should not be read as a standard economy result for everyday driving.
How e-Power drives the wheels
Although the Qashqai carries a petrol engine, that engine does not have a direct mechanical connection to the wheels. Instead, it generates electricity, while an electric motor alone provides the drive.
The vehicle can be refuelled with petrol and does not require external charging, yet its wheels are always turned by the electric motor. That operating sequence is central to the wording of the Guinness category.
Nissan's latest e-Power system uses a 5-in-1 module that integrates the motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser. The engine retains its electricity-generating role, with the integrated electric motor providing drive.
The Colombian record adds an independently verified long-distance result to that technical pitch, but several buyer-facing details remain unanswered. Nissan has not announced New Zealand specifications or suggested that the record has any local launch implications.
