Tesla has launched a colour wrap service for Model 3 and Model Y owners, addressing its previously limited colour options. The service is priced between USD 7500 and USD 8000 (around $12,500 to $13,300), depending on the chosen colour. It expands the existing colour palette from five to twelve choices. The new colours are Slip Grey, Satin Ceramic White, Satin Stealth Black, Glacier Blue, Forest Green, Satin Rose Gold, and Crimson Red.
New Tesla colour options
The wraps, made from self-healing urethane-based film, provide protection against paint chips, scratches, and swirls, besides enhancing the vehicle's appearance. The cost encompasses the installation fee.
Currently, this service is a pilot project, available only at two Tesla Service Centers in West Covina and Carlsbad, California. Compared to independent shops like Vinyl Ink in Fremont, California, which estimates wrap costs between USD 2000 and USD 7000 ($3300 to $11600), Tesla's service leans toward the pricier side. Vehicle wraps are temporary solutions, usually lasting no longer than seven years. It is immediately unclear whether Tesla locations in New Zealand will offer a similar service now or in the near future.
Notably, Tesla has also introduced a clear wrap option priced at USD 5000 ($8300), which allows the car's original colour to shine through while still providing the protective features of a wrap. This option is, however, not yet functional but is listed on Tesla's online shop.
Cybertruck colour wraps coming soon
In addition, recent reports have hinted at the introduction of a wrap service for the much-awaited Cybertruck, which, due to its stainless steel exterior, cannot be painted like other vehicles.
This service is expected to be available within six months of the first customer deliveries, with a speculated price range of USD 8000 to USD 12,000 ($13,300 to $19,900). The Cybertruck, with its single exterior finish of exposed stainless steel, presents a unique challenge in personalization, which Tesla aims to address with this wrap service.
