Smart introduces #5 electric SUV to New Zealand market

  • Smart has officially launched the latest member of its range in New Zealand.
  • The #5 medium SUV joins the smaller #1 and #3 in the local line up.

Smart has officially launched the #5 electric SUV in New Zealand, adding a third model to its local lineup alongside the existing #1 and #3. The #5 range consists of three distinct specifications: the Pro+, the Premium, and the high-performance Brabus model.

The #5 is built on an 800-volt platform that supports ultra-fast DC charging of up to 400kW, allowing the 100kWh battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

The entry-level rear-wheel-drive #5 Pro+ kicks off the range at $79,990 and features a 100kWh LFP battery that provides a range of 540km under WLTP testing standards. Standard equipment for the Pro+ includes a 13-inch OLED display, a panoramic glass roof with a powered blind, wireless phone charging, automated and remote parking, Over the Air updates, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go.

The #5 Premium variant lands at $89,990, also in RWD format and packing the 100kWh battery, but offers a 590km range. Standard equipment over the Pro+ includes dual 13-inch OLED displays, a 20-speaker Sennheiser sound system with Dolby Atmos, and a Head-Up Display.

Premium and Brabus models feature two big 13-inch OLED displays.

The flagship of the #5 range is the AWD Brabus model that has a retail price of $99,990. The Brabus is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 475kW of power that will propel it to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

All variants of the smart #5 have received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, and standard safety and assistance features across the range include the Smart Pilot Assist system, a 360-degree camera, and 12 parking sensors.
