  • Short film pits Elroq RS against 1980s supercars.
  • We demand a rematch with a 1985 Porsche 911 Turbo.
  • RS with 250kW not yet part of Kiwi Elroq lineup.

A short film created by Skoda UK pitches the Elroq RS against a trio of 1980s supercars in a straight drag race at Dunsfold Aerodrome, former home of the Top Gear test track.

Somebody looks a bit big and gawky. But still fast.

The idea was to celebrate the status of the Elroq RS as the fastest-accelerating production car in Skoda's history. That bit at the start ("A short film created by Skoda") will tell you everything you need to know about the result.

Funny thing is, the Elroq RS isn't actually that fast. The dual-motor 250kW model hits 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, which is brisk but not beltingly quick. The more salient point might be that 1980s supercars are just not that rapid by modern standards.

The Elroq RS faced the Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary (0-100km/h 5.7 seconds), Ferrari Testarossa (5.3sec) and not-quite-a-supercar-in-our-opinion Porsche 944 Turbo (5.6sec). A Porsche 911 Turbo of the same vintage as the 944 could hit 100km/h in 5sec, but maybe they couldn't find one of those?

And they're off! Well, one of them.

Given that these 40-plus year-old cars might not have their full quotient of kW to draw upon, it's probably not surprising that they failed to make much of an impression against the little Skoda on the dragstrip. Nice to see the old folks out and about though, right?

The Elroq is part of the Skoda New Zealand lineup, although the flagship RS is yet to join the range.
