Compact SUV offers 440km range.

  • Skoda’s Epiq is its most affordable fully electric model.
  • The Epiq 55 offers around 440km of claimed electric range.
  • A 475-litre boot gives the compact SUV strong everyday practicality.

Skoda has detailed the new Epiq, a compact electric SUV crossover that will become the brand’s most affordable fully electric model.

Sitting below the Enyaq and Elroq, the Epiq is designed to give Skoda a stronger foothold in the entry-level EV market. In many markets, Skoda says the base Epiq will reach price parity with the petrol-powered Kamiq, which is exactly the sort of detail that makes an electric SUV suddenly look rather more realistic for everyday buyers.

The Epiq measures 4171mm long, 1798mm wide and 1581mm high, with a 2601mm wheelbase. Despite that compact footprint, it offers a 475-litre boot, plus more than 28 litres of interior storage.

A 25-litre frunk will also be available later in production, giving owners a cleaner place to stash charging cables or smaller items.

Towing capacity ranges from 500kg on Epiq 35 and Epiq 40 variants to up to 1200kg braked for the Epiq 55.

The Epiq is also the first Skoda production model to fully adopt the brand’s Modern Solid design language, with a glossy black Tech-Deck Face, slim T-shaped lighting and a drag coefficient of 0.275.

The Epiq is built on the new MEB+ platform and is Skoda’s first electric model with front-wheel drive.

Three versions will be offered: Epiq 35, Epiq 40 and Epiq 55.

The Epiq 35 produces 85kW, while the Epiq 40 lifts output to 99kW. Both use a 38.5kWh gross lithium-iron-phosphate battery and deliver 267Nm, with range around 310km.

The range-topping Epiq 55 uses a 55kWh gross battery and produces 155kW and 290Nm. Skoda claims around 440km of range, with DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent taking approximately 24 minutes. All variants get 11kW AC charging as standard.

Clever, connected and animal-free

The Epiq supports bidirectional charging, including vehicle-to-load, vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid functions when paired with compatible equipment. It also introduces full one-pedal driving in B mode, with switchable regeneration intensity.

Inside, the Epiq's cabin uses a 13-inch Android-based infotainment system, recycled polyester upholstery and animal-free materials.

Standard safety kit includes Front Assist, Side Assist, Lane Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and seven airbags.

A limited First Edition will follow shortly after launch, based on the Epiq 55 and marked out by Navajo Orange details, 20-inch wheels and extra equipment.

Skoda has not disclosed New Zealand availability or pricing yet. Still, if the Epiq lands with sharp numbers, it could be one of the brand’s most important EVs yet.
