Renault has breathed new life into its classic 1970s 17 coupe, transforming it into an all-electric restomod that seamlessly blends retro design with modern technology.

The R17, a collaborative effort with French designer Ora Ito, boasts a custom bodywork that pays homage to the original coupe while incorporating contemporary elements.

The Galactic Brown finish, sleek LED headlights and absence of a traditional front grille are just a few examples of how this restomod embraces its electric identity.

The R17's design is a visual delight, featuring thin A-pillars, tiny wing mirrors and eye-catching wheels.

Inside, the ambience is equally impressive, showcasing a two-spoke steering wheel, wooden trim, and digital gauges with red graphics. Brown leather and white fabric seats add a touch of luxury.

Under the bonnet, a 200kW electric motor replaces the original 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, propelling the R17 to new levels of performance. The lightweight carbon fibre chassis further enhances the driving experience.

Ora Ito describes his design philosophy for the R17 as "simplexity", aiming to distil complex aspects while showcasing the car's design. The result is a stunning restomod that captures the essence of the original 17 coupe while embracing the future of electric mobility.

The R17 will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October, offering a glimpse into Renault's vision for the future of classic car reinvention.
