MG has lifted the veil - partially - on its latest electric SUV, the MGS5 EV.
Set to debut in the following weeks, this new model is set to replace the popular ZS EV, riding on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) shared with the well-received MG4 hatchback.
Larger, more refined SUV
Measuring approximately 4480 mm in length, the MGS5 EV is 162mm longer than the outgoing ZS EV, hinting at improved interior space and practicality.
The new SUV is expected to offer an upgraded cabin experience, addressing one of the key criticisms of the MG4 - its somewhat underwhelming interior materials and technology.
Powertrain options

While MG has yet to confirm European specifications, the MGS5 EV is likely to mirror the ES5, its Chinese-market counterpart.
The ES5 launched last October with a 125kW single-motor powertrain driving the front wheels, the same entry-level setup as the MG4.
Additional powertrain options, including a 150kW single-motor variant or an all-wheel-drive dual-motor system producing up to 320kW, could also be on the table.
Fresh design with retro cues

MG’s teaser images reveal a bold rear design featuring a full-width LED light bar integrating an illuminated MG logo, Y-shaped taillights and a sculpted rear hatch with a subtle notchback spoiler.
Traditional pull-style door handles replace the flush-mounted trend, and the alloy wheels appear to pay homage to classic Rostyle designs from MG’s past.
Pricing and availability
MG has yet to announce pricing, but with the ZS EV starting at $40,990 in New Zealand, the MGS5 EV is expected to remain within this price range.
With MG’s aggressive pricing strategy and growing reputation for offering strong value, the MGS5 EV could pose a serious challenge to established European brands in the compact electric SUV segment.
Expect more details when the MGS5 EV makes its official debut shortly.
