Hyundai has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the introduction of the new Inster Cross, a more rugged version of its smallest and cheapest EV, designed for urban and off-road adventurers.

This new variant brings a bolder aesthetic and enhanced practicality while maintaining the eco-friendly credentials of the original Inster.

The Hyundai Inster Cross stands out with a more aggressive exterior design, boasting muscular front and rear bumpers, oversized skid plates and protective black cladding.

The side profile is reinforced with new rocker panel-inspired side skirts, while a standard roof rack caters to those needing extra cargo space for outdoor gear. The vehicle also rides on optional 17-inch alloy wheels, adding both visual appeal and utility.

For drivers seeking a unique look, Hyundai offers the Inster Cross in an exclusive Amazonas Green Matte colour, along with other options from the regular Inster palette.

Inside, the Inster Cross maintains its compact yet practical layout.

The lime-yellow accents on the grey cloth upholstery and dashboard give it a vibrant touch, while optional features like a sliding and reclining second row add versatility.

The boot offers between 280 to 351 litres of space, depending on the seating configuration, making it surprisingly roomy for a small EV measuring just 3825 mm long.

Under the bonnet, the Inster Cross offers two fully electric, front-wheel-drive powertrains. The standard option delivers 71kW, while the long-range version produces 84.5kW and boasts a battery capacity of 49kWh, giving a range of up to 359km on the WLTP cycle. Charging is swift, thanks to 120kWh DC fast charging support.

Hyundai is set to begin production of the Inster Cross in South Korea by the end of the year. While pricing details are yet to be confirmed, the vehicle is expected to be available in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions.

Unfortunately, like the base Inster, there's no information on a local release for the Inster Cross. Kiwi buyers in the market for a Hyundai EV can still check out the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6.
