A hybrid built for rough country

Geely has unveiled a suite of AI-powered off-road technology that will make its production debut in the Zhanjian 700, an imposing electrified 4x4 aimed at combining serious all-terrain ability with everyday comfort.

At its foundation is the Geely Terrain Architecture, or GTA, which uses an integrated-frame structure. Geely says this is paired with an AI all-terrain digital chassis designed to co-ordinate the vehicle's responses across changing surfaces.

Power comes from Geely's EM-T three-motor hybrid system. The company's distributed press release does not specify a combined output, but CarNewsChina reports the Zhanjian 700 produces 830kW. That figure places it firmly in supercar territory, although Geely's pitch is centred as much on control and resilience as outright performance.

The company says it developed the system to deliver off-road capability without sacrificing the quieter, more settled behaviour expected during everyday driving. Precise performance figures and technical details for the production model remain limited.

Emergency features go beyond traction

The unusual part is what happens when an adventure goes badly wrong. Geely says the Zhanjian 700 will offer an emergency flotation and escape function, along with an onboard oxygen supply and satellite communications.

Those features broaden the vehicle's safety brief beyond the usual combination of drive modes, locking differentials and underbody protection. However, they remain manufacturer claims until the production vehicle can be assessed independently.

Geely says its validation programme involved 659 vehicles and covered more than 6.11 million kilometres, with testing intended to expose the hardware and control systems to a broad range of conditions.

The Zhanjian 700 gives Geely a striking technological flagship for its expanding electrified range, but several practical questions are unanswered. Pricing, launch timing and market availability have not been disclosed, and there is no confirmation that the model will be offered in New Zealand.
