Following on from the launch of its entry-level EX2 city-EV this month, Geely New Zealand has announced an expansion of its EX5 BEV and Starray EM-i PHEV family SUVs, and a completely new model for 2027: the Monjaro premium SUV.
Both the EX5 and Starray have gained new extended-range options.
For the EX5, the Complete still opens the lineup at $49,990 with a 60kWh battery and 430km range (WLTP), but the top Inspire model has gained a 68kWh pack giving an extra 20km: 450km. It's a small upgrade, but prcing remains unchanged at $56,990.
The Starray EM-i super hybrid takes a similar path. The entry Complete continues at $45,990 with an 18.9kWh battery giving 83km EV range and 943km overall, but the $52,990 Inspire steps up to a 29.8kWh unit for 136km on electric power and 966km combined.
The new Monjaro is a larger (nearly 4.8m long), more luxurious SUV that sits above Starray. Local specification is yet to announced, but Kiwi Geely distributor NordEast hints at a 1.5-litre petrol-electric powertrain (full hybrid, no plug).
Geely really ramps up the spacey styling references with Monjaro, which is described in global advertising as having "Milky Way Surge" front design, an "Interstellar Travel" waistline and "Aurora" tail lights.
The Monjaro name is inspired by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, and is used for export markets. In China it's known as Xingyue L, meaning "star cross".
Geely network grows to nine
Back on earth, NordEast has added a ninth dealer to its national network. Bay Geely Napier will begin operations on 1 September 2026 at 11 Owen Street, Napier.
