New hybrid supercar limited to 499

New hybrid supercar limited to 499

  • Audi’s Nuvolari produces 736kW from a V8 hybrid powertrain.
  • The limited-run supercar reaches more than 350km/h.
  • Audi will build 499 units, with deliveries starting in 2027.

Audi has revealed the Nuvolari, its first supercar with a high-performance hybrid powertrain and the most powerful production vehicle in the brand’s history.

Limited to 499 units, the Nuvolari is a near-production prototype for now, with deliveries due to begin in the first half of 2027. The headline figures are suitably serious: 736kW, a top speed of more than 350km/h, 0-100km/h in 2.6 seconds and 0-200km/h in 6.8 seconds.

V8, three motors, one big number

The Nuvolari uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 588kW and 730Nm, backed by three axial-flux electric motors. Two sit on the front axle, while the third is positioned between the V8 and transmission.

Each electric motor produces 110kW, with the front motors delivering up to 2150Nm of torque. A 7.3kWh lithium-ion battery completes the high-performance hybrid setup.

“With the Audi Nuvolari*, we are accelerating technological progress,” says Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG. “It shows what is possible when the focus is on technology, performance, and execution through teamwork — and when we achieve progress together.”

Quattro gets predictive

Audi calls the next-generation all-wheel-drive setup quattro predictive ride. It uses sensor data including steering angle, acceleration, yaw rate and grip level to anticipate loss of traction, then adjusts torque, braking and aerodynamics before things get messy.

Drivers can pick from E-Hybrid, Balanced, Dynamic and Dynamic+ modes, while Track Mode adds more detailed traction-control settings from Wet to Dry, Race and TC Off.

The front electric motors also enable torque vectoring, giving the Nuvolari more precise cornering and extra stability at high speeds.

Carbon skin, active aero

The Nuvolari combines Audi Space Frame construction with a carbon-fibre exterior, a first for the brand. Almost all exterior components are made from carbon fibre-reinforced polymer, using Formula 1-influenced processes.

The active aero package includes an S-duct, rear diffuser, front splitter and deployable rear wing. The wing has Closed, Low Downforce and High Downforce positions, with a Formula 1-style DRS function available via a steering-wheel button. Audi says the setup can generate more than 400kg of downforce, depending on driving conditions.

Stopping power comes from Audi Ceramic Pro brakes, with ten-piston front calipers and 420mm front discs. The hybrid system can also deliver up to 0.3g of electric deceleration.

Inside, Audi has gone driver-focused, with reduced controls, anodised aluminium details, carbon-backed lightweight seats and colour cues referencing the Auto Union Type C.

Audi has not disclosed official pricing yet. Final specifications remain preliminary and subject to change.
