Seven-seat flagship cabin previewed.

  • Audi’s Q9 will offer six-seat and seven-seat cabin layouts.
  • Electrically operated doors are available on an Audi for the first time.
  • Final Q9 specifications will be confirmed on July 28, 2026.

Audi has offered a first look inside the new Q9, its upcoming full-size flagship SUV, and the message is fairly clear: the brand wants this big three-row family hauler to feel less like transport and more like a living room on wheels.

The Q9 will launch later in 2026, with its full world premiere set for July 28. For now, Audi is focusing on the cabin, which brings up to seven seats, electric doors, a large panoramic sunroof and a new Bang & Olufsen 4D audio system.

“With the Q9, ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ is increasingly defined by the in-car experience,” says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “Cars have long been much more than just a means of transportation; they are mobile living spaces for our customers. Premium materials, variable seating with individual electric seats in the second row, and automatic doors underscore the commitment to quality in our new, large full-size SUV.”

The Q9 can be ordered as a six-seater with second-row captain’s chairs, or as a seven-seater with a conventional three-seat middle row.

Audi says all three second-row seats can accept child seats.

Access to the third row has also been made easier. The outer second-row seat slides and tilts electrically without needing to fold flat, so an unoccupied child seat can stay installed.

The third-row backrests can also fold individually via electric controls, making the change from people-moving to luggage-hauling less of a wrestle.

Doors that do the work

For the first time in an Audi, every door can be opened electrically from inside using a button. An optional Smart Entrance function lets users control opening and closing through the myAudi app, the MMI system or the key fob.

There is some useful thinking behind the theatre. The doors can open up to 90 degrees, while sensors can stop them hitting obstacles in tight parking spots. The same system can also detect approaching cyclists or other road users, helping prevent a door being opened into traffic.

Sunroof, sound and soft-touch details

The Q9’s standard panoramic sunroof measures about 1.5 square metres and can be opened. An optional version uses nine switchable glass segments to darken the cabin, while 84 LEDs can light the roof in 30 colours.

Audi’s updated Bang & Olufsen system adds headrest speakers and, for the first time, actuators in the front seats so occupants can physically feel the music.

The cabin also offers Dinamica microfibre, leather options, natural wood trims, dual wireless phone charging and USB-C ports with up to 100W output.

Audi has not yet disclosed final powertrain details, pricing or market availability yet. Full specifications are due at the official reveal on July 28, 2026.
