The local muscle car scene has received a boost with the unveiling of the 2024 Mustang RTR Spec 1, courtesy of RTR Vehicles NZ and Ford New Zealand. This latest aftermarket creation tailor made for the next-generation Mustang promises a worthy upgrade for owners with $13,000 to spare.
Aggressive from the start
The 2024 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 1 arrives with a hyper-aggressive stance encapsulated by its space-themed design inspiration. Central to this look is the revamped RTR upper grille, which, in addition to its futuristic look, serves a functional purpose. The grille structure accelerates airflow, meeting the car's mechanical cooling needs, while the illuminated intake scoops channel cool air to the engine.
The redesigned RTR grille now boasts a mesh treatment with trapezoidal LED lights at both ends, creating a distinctive depth effect. The new front splitter and side sills, alongside a new set of wheels, unique RTR badging, and decals, further differentiate this Mustang from its standard counterpart. Additionally, a new decklid rear spoiler enhances both aesthetics and aerodynamic efficiency.
Performance-driven enhancements
The Spec 1’s allure extends beyond aesthetics; it's engineered for exhilarating performance. While the exact power figures are yet to be released, the current Mustang RTR Spec 5, with its 560kW and 834 Nm of torque, hints at the the new version's performance benchmarks.
Speculation suggests the new Ford Mustang RTR could pack nearly 600kW, indicating substantial upgrades under the hood. The co-development of the 2024 Mustang's "electronic drift brake" between Ford and RTR further hints at the performance enhancements slated for the 2024 Mustang RTR Spec 1.
Availability and pricing
The Mustang RTR Spec 1 kit will hit the market as the seventh-generation Ford Mustangs roll into dealerships in 2024, with a price tag of $13,000 for the RTR kit alone. The introduction of this kit gives 2024 Mustang buyers an additional high-performance option apart from the Dark Horse or Mustang GTD.
Pre-orders are now open at local Ford dealerships, and the Spec 1 package will be available as an option on existing Mustang GTs.
