If Zeekr is Geely Group's premium rival to European luxury marques, consider this another step into that territory: the Chinese brand is heading up to the Southern Alps, near Queenstown, this week for a customer "electrified ice-drive experience".
Events of this type have traditionally been the preserve of high-end European brands: Audi, BMW, Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari and Lamborghini all run similar events.
Zeekr New Zealand says its programme "offers a select group of guests the chance to get behind the wheel of vehicles from Zeekr's future product portfolio before they reach market. This is an invitation into the world of Zeekr on a level usually reserved for engineers and insiders, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Alps".
Kiwi guests choose from two Zeekr On Ice experiences for 2026: 19–21 August or 20–22 August. There are also Australian and international days in the schedule.
The event package includes two nights at Millbrook Resort in Queenstown and a full day behind the wheel in the ice and snow. Zeekr vehicles will include new models such as the 7GT, 8X and flagship 9X, as well as the current X and 7X.
Dane Fisher, group general manager at Zeekr importer NordEast Vehicle Distributors, says: "Zeekr On Ice gives a select group of NZers the opportunity to drive future Zeekr models long before they reach market, at one of the world's most demanding proving grounds. It's a unique experience that showcases the performance, technology and capability that define the Zeekr brand."
The driving programme is led by ice-driving instructors and will include vehicle dynamics training, slalom courses, controlled power slides, gymkhana circuits and hot laps with professional drivers.
The wider itinerary includes:
● Two nights at Millbrook Resort.
● Welcome and celebration dinners curated for "an exclusive clientele".
● Expert coaching from ice driving instructors.
● Helicopter transfer off the mountain.
● Concierge service with airport and ground transfers
The Driver Package includes the full programme for $5500, but Zeekr is also offerng a Spectator Package from $1500. Flights are not included in the package prices.
