Surrender everything; your love of manual gearboxes, the mouth-watering notion of pairing a B-road and your light a bubbly car of choice, all romantic notions about the driving experience in general. The self-driving cars are coming, and us petrol heads will be the first to be brought to our knees by the advent of the self-driving car.
I'm joking, but can't help but be a touch fearful of just how 'far' the market's thirst and interest in autonomous cars is going to go, and what that's going to mean for the driving nut in the future.
That said, it's still very interesting watching this clip that Tesla have uploaded onto the world wide web, showing us more detail on how their yet-to-be-launched full autopilot system works. What we have is a video that shows three views from three 'cameras' on the car, plus an in-car view of the end result.
'Cameras' is marked because the company recently issued a software update that transitioned its cameras into radars — just another update leading into bigger and most likely better things for Tesla's technology as they edge closer to fully autonomous travel.
Is the technology in the video perfect? Nope. On a couple of occasions the car stops seemingly randomly, and at one intersection is almost confuses the center lane for the shoulder. However, these are all technologies under development. Plenty of work and improvement is to come before we're likely to share the road with one.
Still, give me a hot hatch with a stick any day.
