Most of us would be perfectly happy with a Ferrari 488.
For good reason, of course. They're a stellar machine, improving on the already brilliant 458 in just about every measure. Barring the faint whispers from so-called 'purists' about how turbochargers don't belong in Ferraris, of course.
But, apparently even perfection can be improved on. That's according to the German tuners at Novitec Rosso anyway, who have revealed their limited-edition package for the 488 — named the N-Largo. And, unlike some other tuning packages that, perhaps, we weren't fans of, there's a lot to like.
As you'd expect, power's gone up. Novitec take the 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 from the standard 488 and pump it up to almost V12 F12 TdF proportions. Numbers jump from 500kW and 760Nm of torque to 576kW and 892Nm of torque. Quite the jump! According to Novitec, this means that the 488 will go from 0-100 in 2.8 seconds, and eventually arrive at 340km/h.
As you'll have noticed though, performance is only really part of the Novitec creation. The other part is the looks of the thing.
For starters, there's a heck of a lot of carbon fibre in play. Novitec's widened guard package, front and rear bumpers, diffuser — the whole shebang — is produced in carbon fibre. The lighter materials also help the 488 span a wider distance, with its dimensions from one side to another increasing by some 14cm.
What makes it look wider still is the fact that it's lowered by more than an inch, with the aid of hydraulic-lift suspension. Combine that with the 22" NF6 NL wheels, and the Novitec strikes an imposing shape when sitting still.
Unlike a lot of other aftermarket packages, this one looks fantastic. Note the trio of vents behind the rear wheels; a clear reference to the similar apertures on the legendary Ferrari F40.
The catch? Well, apart from no doubt being rather expensive (Novitec haven't issued pricing. This is probably one of those 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it' kind of deals), the German company are only making 11 of them in total.
