Two 100-unit GR Yaris editions revealed.

Two 100-unit GR Yaris editions revealed.

  • Toyota will build 100 examples of each GR Yaris special.
  • Both editions use a 224kW turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine.
  • Applications run through Toyota’s GR smartphone app in Japan.

Toyota Gazoo Racing has opened applications for two deeply exclusive GR Yaris specials in Japan, and buyers will need more than money to secure one.

The GR Yaris Morizo RR Edition and GR Yaris Sébastien Ogier 9x World Champion Edition are each limited to 100 units. Applications are being taken through the GR smartphone app from 27 May to 9 June, with the 200 successful applicants to be announced on 1 July. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early August.

The Morizo RR is priced at ¥9,000,000, or about NZ$94,500, while the Ogier 9x Edition costs ¥8,450,000, roughly NZ$88,725.

That makes both cars substantially pricier than the standard GR Yaris range in Japan, which spans ¥3,617,200 to ¥5,882,200. Still, scarcity tends to do strange things to hot-hatch logic.

For those who miss out, Toyota will also sell 1:43 scale models of both editions at rally venues and selected stores for ¥16,500. Not quite as satisfying as a turbocharged AWD pocket rocket, but much easier to park.

Morizo gets Akio’s touch

The GR Yaris Morizo RR is shaped around Akio Toyoda’s own preferences, with tuning influenced by his Nürburgring 24 Hours experience.

It gets bespoke suspension and electric power steering, plus a dedicated Morizo Mode that fixes the AWD system at a 50:50 torque split.

Visually, it wears an aggressive carbon-fibre bodykit with a pronounced splitter, vented bonnet, sharper side skirts and an adjustable wing.

The exterior is finished in exclusive Gravel Khaki, paired with matte bronze 18-inch BBS forged wheels and yellow brake calipers. Inside are an Ultrasuede-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, yellow stitching, a numbered plaque and Morizo branding on the windscreen.

Ogier edition keeps the manual

The Sébastien Ogier 9x World Champion Edition takes a different route. Its Seb Mode uses a rear-biased 40:60 torque split, while a second Morizo mode is tuned for gravel.

It comes in exclusive Gravity Black with matte black BBS wheels, blue brake calipers, Gazoo Racing decals and French tricolour accents.

The cabin adds matching tricolour stitching, a leather-wrapped vertical handbrake and a signed 9x World Champion plaque.

Both cars use Toyota’s turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine, producing 224kW and 400Nm. The Morizo RR gets the eight-speed automatic, while the Ogier 9x keeps the six-speed manual.

Toyota has not disclosed availability outside Japan.
