A new GR Sport version will head up the facelifted Toyota Corolla Cross SUV range for New Zealand in the second half of the year.

Looks aggressive, although the 2.0-litre hybrid engine is unchanged for the Cross GR Sport.

The GR Sport is based-on and replaces the Limited AWD (a Limited FWD continues however), but with upgrades including 19-inch black and machined alloy wheels, red brake callipers, unique front bumper and grille, and black exterior accents. Inside, the GR Sport has GR-branded suede and leather-accented seats, aluminium pedals, paddle shifters, and gunmetal interior trim elements.

It's not all show: GR Sport has a more sophisticated double wishbone rear suspension than FWD Corolla Cross models (as did the previous Limited AWD) and GR-specific tuning for the electric power steering system. The suspension is lowered 10mm.

The rest of the Corolla Cross lineup gets a refreshed exterior from May 2025 production. There's a new front bumper and grille design, new exterior colour options and specification upgrades.

New look for regular Cross models too, but they're a bit softer.

While the front-drive GX, GXL and Limited grades all receive new design and safety features, GX and GXL also get a driver-assist upgrade.

The upgrades to the Corolla GX grade include a new honeycomb bumper and grille design, and upgrades to the parking system, with a Parking Support Brake and new front and rear parking sensors (4 at each end). Inside, the GX now has dual-zone automatic air-conditioning.

Limited AWD ousted by GR Sport, but continues in FWD form.

Upgrades for the GXL include a wireless phone charger, front seat heaters, automatic rain-sensing wipers, and a Vehicle Approach Notice safety feature.

The Limited (now front-drive only, with the GR Sport replacing the Limited AWD) receives front seat ventilation, combination fabric and leather accented upholstery, a 12.3in full digital meter, and a power back door with kick sensor.

Pricing and final specification for the revised range is yet to be announced.
