  • Sony Interactive Entertainment has unveiled a limited edition DualSense controller for the 30th anniversary of Gran Turismo.
  • The controller features a special GT livery, complete with racing stripes and carbon fibre.
  • Pre-sales will start on October 23, with the controller set to launch in December for $149.

To celebrate a truly monumental three decades of "The Real Driving Simulator," Sony Interactive Entertainment has unveiled a Gran Turismo Limited Edition version of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. Yes, it really has been around that long...

While this stylish new peripheral is designed to honour the franchise’s history, its arrival coincides with the launch of the massive Spec IV (Part 1) update, providing players with both new physical hardware and a wealth of fresh digital content to explore.

With its racing stripes, bonnet catches and carbon fibre inserts, the new controller is the ultimate way to play Gran Turismo. Short of an actual steering wheel, that is.

Sony says the limited-edition controller is "crafted to embody the craftsmanship and engineering at the heart of the Gran Turismo series" and features racing stripes and motorsport-inspired graphics - including some awesome little bonnet latches on the touchpad - along with a textured, carbon-fibre-style front plate that "mimics high-performance vehicle materials".

Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, reflected on the milestone, stating that the design is a tribute to the shared journey with the racing community.

The new Spec IV (part 1) update brings a new track and six new vehicles to Gran Turismo 7, including a 2CV!

"Thirty years ago, Gran Turismo began with a vision to share the beauty and joy of the automobile," he said. "This commemorative controller celebrates the journey we have shared together, and I am deeply grateful to everyone whose passion continues to inspire us."

The controller will retail for NZ$149 and pre-orders are set to open on October 22 at 10:00am local time, with a global launch scheduled for December 10.

While the controller offers a new way to interact with the game, the Spec IV (Part 1) update, which is available now, significantly expands the gameplay experience. The headline addition is the legendary Sportsland Sugo circuit, a historic track that provides a perfect playground for testing the update's six new vehicle additions.

The new vehicles include:

Beyond these vehicles and the new circuit, the Spec IV update also introduces new events, Car Viewer features, and an Experience mode to "deepen the connection between player and machine".
