Honda turns up the shine on 25 years of hybrid tech.

To mark the 25th anniversary of its pioneering hybrid vehicles, Honda has taken a creative turn by revealing a one-off Civic e:HEV cloaked in what it calls the 'Silveriest Silver' paint.

This unique shade is no standard metallic coat but instead, a specialised blend made with actual silver flakes, with a composition that’s 64% pure silver.

The paint's origin comes from British artist Stuart Semple, known for his innovative creations like the 'Goldest Gold' and 'Pinkest Pink'.

Through his studio, Culture Hustle, Semple has designed what Honda claims to be the "silveriest" silver ever to coat a car.

Semple has previously made headlines with his vivid colour creations and their superlative names, adding this intensely silver paint to his repertoire.

In collaboration with the UK-based specialists at The Syrup Room, the Silveriest Silver was carefully layered onto the Civic e:HEV’s bodywork.

More than a simple coat, the process involved multiple applications over protective layers to ensure durability and brilliance. The result is a finish that Honda calls “resilient', marking a first for such an application in automotive design.

Honda’s choice of the Civic e:HEV is a nod to the company’s longstanding hybrid efforts, which began with the release of the original Insight in 1999.

The latest Civic e:HEV hybrid, launched in 2022, features a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with electric motors and a lithium-ion battery for a seamless self-charging experience.

This silver Civic commemorates Honda’s evolving hybrid technology, which in New Zealand has expanded across models like the Jazz, HR-V, ZR-V Sport and CR-V RS.

The lineup will soon welcome the Honda Prelude, set to bring another hybrid-powered experience as soon as 2026.
