Subaru of New Zealand has confirmed that the next-generation Forester Hybrid will arrive in mid-2025, introducing the brand’s latest hybrid powertrain to Kiwi buyers.
Unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, the Forester Strong Hybrid integrates Subaru’s 2.5-litre Boxer engine with electric motors while maintaining the brand’s hallmark symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
Hybrid efficiency
The all-new Forester Hybrid promises greater efficiency while retaining its off-road prowess.
Subaru’s X-Mode dual mode with hill descent control, active torque vectoring and vehicle dynamics control remain standard, ensuring the SUV is equipped for both urban commuting and rugged terrain.
With 220mm of ground clearance, it boasts robust off-road capability while keeping a low step-in height for ease of access.
Upgraded tech and safety

Subaru’s latest iteration of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard, highlighting the brand’s commitment to safety.
The interior features a modernised 11.6-inch tablet-style multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims gain a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, adding to the driver-focused experience.
Local pricing and availability
Kym Mellow, General Manager of Inchcape, the distributor of Subaru vehicles in NZ, highlighted the Forester’s long-standing reputation: “New Zealanders have trusted the Subaru Forester for decades... This next-generation model will proudly continue that award-winning legacy.”
Further details, including local specifications and pricing, will be announced closer to launch. Interested buyers can register for updates on Subaru New Zealand’s website.
In the meantime, the current Subaru Forester remains available in the country, starting at $47,990 for the base 2.5 AWD Petrol model.
