New GLC 200 delivers style, tech and all-wheel drive.

New GLC 200 delivers style, tech and all-wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz New Zealand has introduced the all-new GLC 200 4Matic SUV, offering a fresh entry point to its midsize luxury SUV range.

With all-wheel drive (AWD) now available on this model for the first time in New Zealand, the GLC 200 4Matic aims to balance performance, comfort and style while undercutting its more powerful sibling, the GLC 300 4Matic.

Powertrain and efficiency

Under the bonnet, the GLC 200 4MATIC features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 150kW and 320Nm of torque.

The powertrain is supported by a 48V mild-hybrid system with a second-generation integrated starter generator (ISG), which contributes an additional 17kW and 205Nm when needed.

This electrified setup enhances efficiency by enabling functions like gliding, boost, and recuperation, leading to a claimed combined fuel consumption of approximately 7.5L/100km.

Mated to a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, the GLC 200 4MATIC achieves a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in around 7.8 seconds, providing ample performance for everyday driving.

Exterior and design

The GLC 200 4MATIC comes with the Avantgarde Line styling package, featuring chrome and polished aluminium accents.

Unique to this variant are 19-inch, 10-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels finished in tremolite grey. Additional exterior highlights include LED headlamps with adaptive highbeam assist and aluminium-look running boards, which can be removed for a sleeker aesthetic.

A panoramic sunroof and privacy glass enhance the SUV’s premium feel, while the standard parking package incorporates a 360-degree camera, active parking assist and the transparent bonnet feature - helpful for navigating tricky terrain.

Luxury and tech

Inside, the GLC 200 4Matic blends luxury with technology. The dashboard features silver-grey diamond-pattern trim, while high-gloss black surfaces add sophistication.

Ambient lighting, illuminated door sills and Artico man-made leather upholstery in multiple colour choices further elevate the experience.

Standard features include a head-up display (HUD), a wireless charging pad, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a multifunction sports steering wheel wrapped in leather.

Heated front seats with memory function and four-way lumbar support provide added comfort, while Thermatic dual-zone climate control maintains optimal cabin temperature.

Safety and driver assistance

Mercedes-Benz has packed the GLC 200 4Matic with advanced safety features, including nine airbags and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

These features include active distance assist Distronic, active lane keeping assist, blind spot assist, traffic sign assist, and the Pre-Safe system. A tyre pressure loss warning system and an emergency spare wheel further enhance safety.
