It is Mustang mania at the moment, with the new 2018 model newly launched in New Zealand (keep an eye out for our full road test of the GT Fastback in tomorrow's edition of Driven). Add to that too the confirmation of Mustangs joining the Supercars Championship and the local launch of RTR through CTB Performance, alongside a growing list of aftermarket parts support through the likes of Ford Performance and Roush.
And, for those not too fond of the Mustang, I do apologise. It doesn't look like this product push is about to end any time soon ...
The latest company to wheel out a package for the Mustang is Roush. The American company have been tuning Mustangs for years, but Kiwis are probably more familiar with them through their involvement in Nascar.
This new project, nicknamed the JackHammer, is much more than just a sticker pack or a body kit. No, instead it's a 710hp (522kW) demon.
Using the already handy Coyote five-point-oh as a base, Roush have added their TVS 2650 supercharger and a raft of more heavy-duty parts to the engine bay. The result is the first Mustang to exceed 700hp — though expect the new GT500 to give this figure a firm shake when it lands in 2020. That's backed up by 827Nm of torque.
To help that power get to the ground, the JackHammer also gains adjustable coil-over suspension and sticky Continental ExtremeContact Sport tyres. These performance additives are further complemented by various visual changes including a Roush body kit, custom boot-lid, stripes, and American flag decals (because Murica!).
Those hoping to grab the upgrade in New Zealand are out of luck. Driven have confirmed that the package will only be available in North America — buyers set to pay a sum of US$21,765 for the additions. Accord to Roush, the changes only take a few hours to install, and if you're apprehensive of their quality know that they come with a five year, 60,000 mile power train warranty.
