Mazda recently unveiled the CX-60 Rally concept at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, showcasing an SUV designed to channel motorsport energy into a family-friendly package.
As the third model in the Mazda Spirit Racing lineup, the CX-60 gains distinctive upgrades that blur the line between practicality and performance.
Rally-ready refinements
The CX-60 Rally concept immediately stands out with its oversized black rear spoiler and roof-mounted scoop, both evocative of rally car aerodynamics. Its aggressive design is further accentuated by custom front and rear skid plates, quad exhausts and Mazda Spirit Racing emblems. The body sports a matte wrap with light grey graphics and bold orange accents on the front fenders.
The 20-inch black alloy wheels with a ten-spoke design complete the striking look, hinting at enhanced handling capabilities. Although Mazda has not confirmed suspension adjustments, the lowered stance suggests performance tweaks might be in play.
Motorsport interior
Inside, the CX-60 Rally concept swaps family-focused amenities for motorsport essentials.
Carbon Recaro bucket seats, equipped with six-point harnesses, dominate the cabin alongside a roll cage.
Mazda balances this track-inspired interior with Alcantara details and black leather upholstery, adding a touch of refinement to the rugged setup.
Retaining the familiar
Under the bonnet, the CX-60 Rally retains its standard 3.3-litre SkyActiv-D mild-hybrid diesel engine. This contrasts with the engine options available in the CX-60 range in New Zealand, which include petrol-electric hybrids and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options.
Producing 187kW and 550Nm, the inline-six diesel unit delivers power through an eight-speed automatic transmission to an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
Despite the rally aesthetic, no changes to engine output have been reported.
A concept for the future?
Following the Mazda3 and MX-5 Spirit Racing models (see gallery), the CX-60 Rally concept continues Mazda's push into motorsport-inspired vehicles.
Whether this bold design translates into a production variant remains unclear, but the concept hints at exciting possibilities for Mazda enthusiasts.
