After two events in New Zealand, international drifting superstar 'Mad Mike' Whiddett has announced his Red Bull Drift Shifters event is heading overseas.
First seen on the streets of Central Auckland in 2012, Whiddet has confirmed on social media that the third rendition of his unique drift competition will take place in Liverpool, England on August 19.
Whiddet and his team are promising a line-up with some of the world's best drifters for the first international event, including Kiwi drifter 'Fanga Dan' Woolhouse.
Described as 'high octane pinball', Red Bull Drift Shifters is a score-based competition. However, what makes the format unique is its novel scoring system.
Drift Shifters competition sees drivers navigate a course lined with electronic sensors measuring speed and proximity, removing the need for human judges. All the data is scored electronically and ensures all competitors are marked equally.
"With any judged sport there's always politics within the judges or drivers, or someone who leaves thinking i deserve this or i deserve that. So i wanted to create an event that's all about skill," Whiddet explained ahead of the first event.
