  • New Haval crossover with boxy 4x4-esque styling.
  • Hybrid and PHEV to choose from, both AWD.
  • Sub-$40k start price promised for launch next month.

GWM New Zealand has confirmed a mid-October arrival date for the Haval H7 SUV - aka Big Dog in China - and promised it will be priced at less than $50,000.

Both hybrid and PHEV versions will have Hi4 all-wheel drive.

Even though it doesn't have the cool name here (explain yourselves, GWM), bold retro-style design will be a big part of the H7 pitch. Design-wise it's more akin to GWM's Tank models than its Haval crossovers, although it remains a car-like monocoque underneath, built on a version of the H6 architecture.

Two electrified powertrain options will be available from launch: hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, both with GWM’s "Hi4" intelligent all-wheel drive technology.

“The all-new Haval H7 is an exciting addition to our NZ line-up and brings something genuinely different to the mid-size SUV segment," says Cameron Thomas, country manager of GWM New Zealand. "Its bold, boxy styling gives it a strong identity, while a starting price of under $50,000 ensures it remains accessible
to Kiwi families looking for a distinctive and highly capable SUV. We see a real opportunity for the H7 in New Zealand.

Local specification, powertrain details, model grades and final pricing will be shared in the coming weeks. Customers can already register interest on the GWM website.
