Formerly one of the most niche offerings from GWM's Haval SUV brand, the H6GT has substantially broadened its appeal with the addition of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, offering up to 180km zero-emission driving in EV mode and 1000km combined range.

The H6GT is a coupe-style version of the more mainstream H6 SUV. It's previously been offered with the standard 2.0-litre combustion engine, making the same 150kW as its more boxy sibling.
The H6GT PHEV not only raises the eco-game, it serves up more than twice as much power: with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and electric motors combined it makes 310kW/762Nm. Launch control is standard and GWM claims the SUV can hit 100kmh in 4.9 seconds.
The 180km electric range (WLTP) comes courtesy of one of the biggest PHEV batteries in the business: a 35kWh unit that can be AC or DC charged at up to 48kW. GWM claims a 30-80% DC charge can be achieved in 26 minutes; on a home wallbox, a full charge takes about six hours.

Compared to the standard model, the PHEV features extra drive modes and an uprated braking system, including ventilated discs front and rear.
The H6 GT PHEV comes in a single Ultra specification, for $58,990; the conventional H6GT 2.0 continues at $48,490.
