Free update adds five vehicles.

  • Gran Turismo 7 version 1.70 arrives as a free update.
  • Four modern endurance prototypes join the game’s Gr.1 roster.
  • New World Circuits races include Le Mans and Watkins Glen.

Gran Turismo 7 is about to give endurance racing fans a very tidy June bonus: four modern top-level prototypes, all bundled into a free update.

Version 1.70 arrives on 11 June and adds five vehicles in total, led by the BMW M Hybrid V8, Ferrari 499P, Peugeot 9X8 and Porsche 963. Those four have become some of the most recognisable machines in current Le Mans Hypercar and LMDh racing, making this a particularly meaty update for players who like their virtual racing with a proper WEC flavour.

Hypercars from the couch

The new cars land in GT7’s Gr.1 roster, which already covers high-end prototypes but now gets a much stronger modern endurance presence.

For players, that means the chance to drive recent outright Le Mans contenders without needing a works contract, a race licence or the sort of neck muscles usually required to survive a real stint at La Sarthe. The update also adds a Porsche 911 Turbo S Safety Car, giving collectors a more road-car-based addition alongside the big aero weapons.

New races for new toys

Polyphony Digital is not just dropping the cars into garages and leaving players to invent the fun. Update 1.70 also adds five new World Circuits races.

The fresh events include European FR Challenge 550 at Eiger Nordwand Reverse, Pickup Truck Race at Fishermans Ranch and three new Gr.1 Prototype Series races at Watkins Glen Long Course, the 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit and Sardegna Road Track A.

Those Gr.1 events are clearly built to suit the new endurance racers, particularly the Le Mans race.

If you have ever wanted to throw the Ferrari 499P, Porsche 963, BMW M Hybrid V8 and Peugeot 9X8 into the same digital fight, this is the update doing the obvious thing.

Collectors get a menu too

Café collectors who have reached Level 64 or higher will also receive Extra Menu No. 54, called “Collection: Hybrid Prototypes”. As the name suggests, it centres on the new high-tech endurance machines.

There is also a new Scapes curation centred on Pikes Peak, giving players another dramatic backdrop for virtual photography.

It is a strong freebie, then: four current endurance racers, a safety car, new races and a fresh photo location. The hardest part may simply be deciding whether to start with the Ferrari, Porsche, BMW or Peugeot.
