Meremere Dragway officials have made an early call to postpone its IHRA Nationals event due to the heavy rain forecast for the weekend.

The major title event of the quarter-mile racing season has been shifted to the previously scheduled reserve dates on March 18-19 with same timetable of Saturday qualifying and Sunday elimination rounds.

Qualifying will decide fields of eight in the Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Competition Bike and Competition Eliminator titles and up to 16 cars for a four-round Top Street contest.

Also on the Nationals programme are Supercharged Outlaws, Sport Compact, Modified, Super Sedan, Super Street, Modified Bike and Junior Dragster titles.

Three rounds of qualifying are planned on Saturday March 18 starting at 10.30am with elimination rounds from 9.30am on Sunday March 19.

It will be a busy weekend at the Meremere ‘strip with the next round of Friday night Drag Wars racing for street cars on March 17.
