The winner of a new Ford Mustang auctioned for charity will not only beat the waiting list for the car, but will also be able to race it for free during the next 12 months at Hampton Downs and Highlands Motorsport Park raceways.
The highly-speced car was sold for $110,101 during an on-line auction, which ended last night.
The auction was part of an annual event organised by Auckland Ford and Mazda dealership John Andrews, to raise funds for the children's charity Camp Quality.
Camp Quality is a volunteer, non-profit charitable trust, providing annual summer camps and year-round support at no cost to help children and their families overcome the challenges of living with cancer.
The winner of the car was able to drive it away today, and so beat the 12-month waiting list for a new Mustang.
The John Andrew charity dinner and auction last night raised more than $200,000 for Camp Quality.
The firm conducted a series of online polls to identify New Zealand's most popular Mustang packages, and the car was specced-up accordingly.
The polls determined that the Mustang would be a fastback manual in magnetic colour, equipped with BM13 Savini D cast forged alloys wheels and a CTB/Ford Performance Racing Stage 3 power upgrade package for the engine producing 500kw/670BHP.
These upgrades, including other cosmetic additions to the Mustang have been donated through a number of John Andrew's suppliers and took the vehicle’s RRP to an excess of $115,000.
In addition the successful bidder will be able to race the car at Hampton Downs and Highlands Motorsport Park, after owner Tony Quinn, donated a Hampton Downs and Highlands GT Membership package to the deal.
