It has been over a year since Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD arrived in New Zealand and almost a year since its first model, Atto 3, arrived in local showrooms.

The brand has since enjoyed much acclaim, with Atto 3 bagging seven Car of the Year awards in 2022, including DRIVEN Car Guide's Best Clean Car BEV award.

BYD Auto NZ has also sold over 3,500 vehicles to corner 19 percent of the EV market and rise to top two in EV sales in the country.

Those reasons alone warrant expansion, and that's what BYD is doing. The company has augmented its dealer network to add three new showrooms opening next month.

In Taranaki, Energy Motors will open a modern facility at 24 Eliot Street, New Plymouth, that offers sales, service and parts operations.

Meanwhile, BYD has tapped The Car Company to set up shop in the upper South Island with a showroom at 150 Rutherford Street, Nelson.

Lastly, Bayswater BYD will add another location in Napier, bolstering its presence in Hawkes Bay after opening its first showroom in Hastings.

In related news, Automarque BYD has completed its new dedicated showroom 25 Rutherford Street, Lower Hutt. BYD Auto NZ also says it is currently accepting expressions of interest for parts and service providers in Rotorua, Taupo, Blenheim, and Timaru.

“The further expansion of the BYD dealer network shows the confidence and reputation of the BYD brand, and its remarkable growth since August 2022," said Warren Willmot, Brand Manager at BYD New Zealand.

"BYD New Zealand only partners with carefully selected dealers, who prioritise customer experience. To have such comprehensive coverage, showcases our commitment to bringing a BYD to all NZ vehicle segments and to all New Zealanders."
