Fabric roof brings a speed limit.

  • The Valhalla Spider combines a twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors for 794kW and 1100Nm.
  • Its 350km/h maximum applies with the roof removed or optional carbon hardtop fitted, Aston Martin says.
  • The standard fabric roof limits speed to 200km/h, with first deliveries planned for the third quarter of 2027.

Aston Martin’s new Valhalla Spider can reach an electronically limited 350km/h with the roof off. Fit its standard fabric roof, however, and the maximum drops to 200km/h.

The removable, stowable fabric covering gives buyers weather protection without a permanent roof mechanism. An optional carbon-fibre hardtop allows the same claimed 350km/h maximum as the open configuration, while a separate rain cover protects the cockpit when the car is parked.

Revealed on 28 October, the Spider is due to make its global debut at the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas this weekend. Aston Martin plans to begin customer deliveries in the third quarter of 2027.

V8 power, three electric motors

The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors, producing a claimed 794kW and 1100Nm in total. The V8 has a flat-plane crankshaft and drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Two motors power the front axle, where they also provide torque vectoring. A third motor works alongside the transmission to assist the V8 at the rear. There is no mechanical connection between the front and rear axles.

Aston Martin has revised the active aerodynamics and stability-control calibration for driving with the roof fitted or removed. With a roof fitted, Aston Martin claims more than 600kg of downforce.

Making room for open-air driving

A clip-in wind deflector folds into three sections and stows in a 15-litre compartment in the sill. The air snorkel is 35mm taller, and the Spider has frameless dihedral doors and a carbon-fibre tub.

The Spider also introduces a carbon-fibre Touring Seat as standard. Buyers can instead specify the coupe’s carbon seat at no extra cost.
