In a move that is set to redefine the competitive landscape of Formula One, Adrian Newey, one of the sport's most revered technical minds, is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.
Newey, responsible for leading teams to an astounding 25 world titles, is poised to bring his technical brilliance to the Silverstone-based team. The partnership will officially begin in March 2025, marking the next phase in Aston Martin’s championship aspirations.
New role and ambitious goals
Newey will assume the position of Managing Technical Partner, a role designed to capitalise on his wealth of experience in F1 engineering.
His appointment is widely regarded as a statement of intent by the team. Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of Aston Martin Aramco, highlighted the significance of this acquisition, stating, “Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game.”
For Newey, the decision was largely influenced by Aston Martin’s new AMR Technology Campus and state-of-the-art facilities. “I have been hugely inspired by Lawrence’s passion and commitment to creating a world-beating team,” Newey commented.
The technical reset scheduled for 2026, including the integration of Honda power units and advanced Aramco fuels, further piqued his interest.
Aston Martin’s bold vision
The signing of Adrian Newey highlights Aston Martin's ambitions to compete at the pinnacle of Formula One.
The team has rapidly positioned itself as a formidable competitor with access to cutting-edge technology and resources, including the latest wind tunnel in the sport.
Stroll’s investment in new infrastructure and personnel signals his drive to transform Aston Martin into a championship contender.
As Stroll noted, “We mean business – and so does Adrian.” With the right blend of expertise, ambition and technological innovation, Aston Martin Aramco appears primed to challenge for world titles in the near future.
