Along with the self-driving Viziv concept, Subaru will unveil two limited STI high-performance models at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Unfortunately, it's unlikely we'll stumble across either in New Zealand as both models will be exclusive to the Japanese market.
Perspective owners will also have to enter a lottery just for the chance to buy an STI model once they arrive in dealerships by late 2017.
Subaru S208
The S208, based on the WRX STI, will be the top-end model in Subaru's high-performance range once it goes on sale.
Subaru and STI have worked together on the development of the engine and suspension, and added exclusive fittings to both exterior and interior, with the aim of achieving the ultimate driving car that offers the best performance and quality in Subaru's S series.

The full vehicle specifications and details of the sale will be announced on October 25, and the S208 production run will be limited to 450 units.
Subaru BRZ STI Sport
Subaru say the Subaru BRZ STI Sport aims for the ultimate “Fun to Drive” and “Pure Handling Delight” by enhancing the ride quality and handling of the standard BRZ.
The model will come in a unique shade of Cook Grey Khaki and the car will sit on black alloy wheels.
Subaru wont say yet if they've added any performance upgrades to the engine, but the BRZ STI Sport will feature a re-tuned suspension.
The cabin will feature new bucket seats with red inserts and stitching.
With production limited to only 100 units, tt will be harder for Japanese buyers' to get their hands on a BRZ STI than a S208.
However, there's one small hope for Kiwi buyers' keen on the idea of a special edition BRZ.
Elements of this STI model will be included in a yet-to-be disclosed Australian variant, due to go on sale at the end of 2017.
Here's hoping Subaru decide to send a few units to New Zealand as well.
