I wanted a good looking, strong performing battery electric vehicle that gave me good options for carrying the family dogs without having to have a high SUV style body. It is truly excellent.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

Styled more to look like a hatchback, Kia styling has e locked a lot in the last 5 years and it competes well with the top European designed vehicles

What have you discovered since owning the car?

Although I charge it 95% at home, any electric vehicle charging structure is very slow at rolling out in NZ. It would be nice to see more options along our state highways.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

Love the performance and handling, it came down to a two horse race between the EV6 and the Model Y Tesla. The EV6 performs better on our roads and is excellent all round.

Very impressed, adapting to a battery electric vehicle has been really easy and I have had zero issue with any range anxiety. Excellent car.

Has it fulfilled those needs? I wanted a mid-upper range EV which had received good ratings from professional reviewers. When the EV 6 was voted 2022 COTY in both Europe and Australia and when it was highly rated in the USA I ordered one. To date I haven't been disappointed. There are a few things I'd like to see changed - such as the placement of the speedometer readout, which is largely blocked by the steering wheel, and the lack of space in the storage area under the boot floor, but these are minor considerations in view of the overall excellence of the car. What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you. probably best summed up by an Australian magazine which described the EV 6 as being "Swift, silent and brilliant to drive." What have you discovered since owning the car? The 'real world' range is nothing like the advertisements. Driven reasonably briskly on anything apart from a completely flat surface the range is more like 350 Km, rather than the 480 claimed by Kia. 480 km is probably achievable, but only under ideal - and probably unrealistic, circumstances. What do you like/dislike about the car? Not much.....possibly the lack of foot space under the front seats for rear seat passengers and the fact that the flat floor and the low-mounted rear seat forces passengers to sit with their knees in a raised position. I don't regularly carry rear seat passengers, but if I did I'd imagine that this could become an issue on a longer journey. Any other comments on the car? The water-based paint is very thin and while I haven't had any damage to date, I'd anticipate this being something that I'll have to contend with in the future. I'd possibly want to experience another manufacturer's EV efforts and as new models are emerging with rapid succession I'll be looking for something that performs better, and isn't a Tesla - which in my opinion is one of the ugliest cars on the road at present.

Has it fulfilled those needs? Cheap to run and service, compared to my diesel car when price of diesel was at $3.00 per litre. Very quiet. What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you. Design and red colour makes car stand out (initially ordered the matt grey but discovered matt paint is very hard to look after so changed to red) Handles well. Quick enough (0 - 100 kph in 7.3 s) so I don't need the AWD model. RWD model is better than Tesla Model Y for range and handling. What have you discovered since owning the car? Free annual download of GPS map updates. V2L (vehicle to load) cable is optional extra, useful for power cuts, can run up to 3600 watts What do you like/dislike about the car? Likes: Power consumption is dependent on driving style, brake regeneration and elevation of roads. I can achieve about 12 kWhr/100 km on a round drip from Meadowbank to North Shore. Higher power consumption on the motorway, so best to keep under 90 km/hr. Happy with RWD model as the second motor in AWD model creates more friction and has reduced range. Could achieve 600 km range if battery charged to 100%. Dislikes: Phone app not available as it doesn't come with SIM card module. Hence no over the air updates. Several features/apps not available on this model (available on overseas model). Doesn't have a sunglass holder. Any other comments on the car? To prolong battery life: I use the 240 v charger and keep the battery charge between 50 to 60%. Don't charge to 100%, use fast charger or charge when battery is hot. Avoid heavy acceleration. Would definitely buy Kia again. However my needs would have changed in 8-10 years time so may not buy the same model or size of car. Newer battery technology should be cheaper in the future
