What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?

Use round town as well as regular longer distance driving for recreational travel, with better fuel economy that my previous vehicle. It has worked out very well - small and nimble enough for round town/parking use, comfortable and powerful enough for longer distance, and surprisingly roomy for passengers. Average fuel economy has been good.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

I've experienced the reliability of Hyundai's in fleet use, and was looking to trade down from a Mazda CX-5 as we did not need a car that size anymore. I liked the styling of the Kona, plus the quality of the interior, it's better fuel economy whilst still being good for open road/longer distance driving.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

It has delivered what I was looking for - suits our needs well, good fuel economy for a 2 litre petrol engine, good handling, roomy in the front and not too bad in the back either. Ideal for the two of us. Excellent comfort and seats, ride not bad. Very quiet as well, good lights and visibility.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

The electronic gearbox with different modes is excellent - Eco delivers good fuel economy, Sport gives really good performance on the open road on steep hills, sharp bends and in overtaking for example. Smart is a good compromise between those modes. I really like the electronic handbrake, and am now a big fan of heated and cooled seats....who knew? Forward visibility is good too. The controls and switches are well laid out and easy to find/use. The display screen is excellent, very clear and easy to use/setup. The Satnav is less useful, citing out of date speed limits with a strong Aussie female voice murdering te reo....and it gives very out-of-date warnings about old speed camera sites - some of which I know for a fact never existed. It also makes a loud 'gong' noise when crossing over the Southern motorway on overbridges - why? To be fair the salesman did warn me about the speed camera warnings...common complaint I guess. I found the sales experience a bit underwhelming compared with my previous experiences with Nissan and Mazda, and the service experience was not as slick or friendly as the other brands. These small grizzles aside this car suits our needs very well, and we are very happy with it.

Any other comments on the car?

Glad I bought it and proud to drive it!

Lastly, would you buy this vehicle again?

Yes

Why would/wouldn't you buy it again?

Aside from some small grizzles it is exactly what we were looking for when we were shopping around several different brands, particularly Nissan and Mazda. I like its looks (Limited with pale grey body, black roof), the amount of interior space, drivability (and power) on the open road as well as in the city, and good fuel economy. Its comfortable and very well appointed, and surprisingly quiet.
