What were your needs when you bought this car? Has it fulfilled those needs?

We needed medium size 7 seater SUV to fit extended family (4 adults & 2 children). Preferably from Japanese brand due to our belief & experience that they are very very reliable. We needed something economical & safe. I've always had Honda's (prelude x 2 & accord) so naturally gravitated towards another Honda.

What were your initial thoughts about the car? Tell us why it appealed to you.

New design caught our eye, 2nd row space incredible and whole 2nd row can be moved forward to make more room for 3rd row passengers. Full leather seats and full sized moon roof were great features. Small features such as sunglass holder came with mirror to keep an eye on kids at the back. Rear doors opening 90degrees made accessing baby seats easy. Full LED tail lights great addition say goodbye to changing bulbs every few years.

What have you discovered since owning the car?

Great experience until I realised that some of the safety features (Honda sensing) were not included in 2017-2018 Sport 7 models. You had to get 5 seater AWD premium to Honda sensing however later Sport 7 models 2019 onwards includes Honda Sensing. Honda servicing is reasonable too around $375 yearly. Compared to wife's Kona we pay over $400 at Hyundai. Also 1.5l dohc vtec engine being new at the time had oil dilution issue fuel leaking into oil. We noticed gas smell while parked inside in the garage. Honda assured us this was normal and of no concern. It hasn't caused us any issues and seems to have been fixed by Honda on newer models. Sales rep at the time told us they will happily wash & vac whenever we are in Newmarket shopping etc however everytime we go the service dept are too busy to do that.

What do you like/dislike about the car?

Likes: large, spacious & practical. Economical (we average 7.5 l per 100km on 91 octane on Econ setting, easily acheive 7.1 l p/100km on normal setting on road trips. Honda Price Promise (I can trade in for new 2023 CRV & still get 30-33k trade in value). Dislikes: groany CVT. Lack of Honda sensing. And no LED headlights. Only came with 3 year warranty.

Any other comments on the car?

Good car overall that had served us well so far. We are missing some safety features, I have got used to since none of our previous cars have had it. No other option in the market for 7 seats from this size SUV. New Xtrail has it but its smaller, so 3rd row even more cramped. Things have changed alot since 2017 and feel now there's more value going to Hyundai or Kia. This was our first new car purchase. We've learnt a lot and looking at competitors who offer 5 years warranty, 5 years wof & some even 5 years free servicing. These will definitely come into negotiations on our next vehicle purchase.

Lastly, would you buy this vehicle again?

Yes

Why would/wouldn't you buy it again?

Yes, seriously considering new 2023 CR-V e:HEV later this year. e:HEV missing 3rd row go which is nice to have for small children. And new CR-Vs come with full suite Honda sensing. However we will shop around this time & compare with other brands (Hyundai, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan). Depends on features vs value vs competition.
