It's the eternal question for many a supercar owner; having spent six figures (sometimes more) on a car, do you put it in the garage forever to make sure it maintains its value, or do you thrash the living daylights out of it?

There's no one right answer of course, but for those who'd lean towards the latter, the visit to the Nürburgring Nordschleife probably represents a mecca of sorts.

The problem with that is that the 'Ring is notorious for incidents. It's a challenging ribbon of pavement, known for catching out enthusiastic amateurs and Formula 1 stars alike. Not only that, but its complex cambered curves and high speeds are also a grand test on a car's components.

Enter, the below video.

Not much is known about the nature of this fire, other than that it turned a once pleasant 991-generation Porsche 911 GT3 from being a track-smashing thoroughbred into an ash tray in the space of a few minutes.

It took place at Adenauer Forst — a slow chicane section that comes after one of the circuit's most feared and high-speed chutes. The car and its owner reportedly weren't locally based, meaning a long and sombre journey home.

The other thing you've got to remember about the Nürburgring is that it's damn long. And if you're stranded at an inconvenient point and waiting for help, even the quickest recovery crew will take a lengthy amount of time to arrive. And such is the case here.

Back in 2014, Porsche actually recalled all of their 991-gen 911s due to a fire risk created by the connecting rod fasteners. It was a pretty big recall, as each vehicle made to that point (more than 700 in total) had to have its engine replaced.

There's nothing to say that that's what we're seeing in action here, however. Thankfully the owner was able to clamber out early before things got worse.
