- NZ one of the first right-hand markets to get EX60.
- Two versions, with a high-performance model to follow.
- First deliveries expected in November.
Volvo New Zealand has confirmed it will have the EX60 on sale before the end of the year, making it one of the first right-hand drive markets in the world to get the all-new battery electric (BEV) model, which represents next-generation technology for the brand.
The Kiwi operation is also continuing its stated mission of powertrain-price-parity with the EX60, which will start at $116,990 for the P6 model: exactly the same as the XC60 plug-in hybrid.
That's been achieved with a small shortcut, though: while both are in top Ultra specification, the EX60 P6 is rear-drive, whereas the XC60 PHEV is AWD.
The EX60 does also come in AWD: the P10 Ultra at $125,990. There will be a high-performance P12 model arriving in the second half of 2027, price yet to be announced.
The EX60 has the distinction of being Volvo's longest-range BEV. The P6 carries an 83kWh battery and achieves range of 611km, but the P10 packs a 95kWh pack and can travel 660km on a charge (both figures are WLTP).
The forthcoming P12 has a massive 117kWh battery and can achieve a startling 810km (again, WLTP).
The Ultra P6 makes 275kW/480Nm from its single motor and can hit 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. The Ultra P10 has another motor and produces 375kW/710Nm, with 0-100km/h in 4.6sec.
The P12 makes 500kW/790Nm and can rocket to 100km/h in 3.9sec.
The P6 is rated to tow 2 tonnes, while the dual-motor versions can handle 2.4t.
The EX60 is the first car to be built on Volvo Cars' new SPA3 electric vehicle architecture and the first Volvo to combine cell-to-body battery technology, an advanced 800-volt electrical system and mega-casting manufacturing technology. It can take advantage of the fastest peak DC charging rate currently available in NZ: 350kW, with 10-80% in a claimed 16 minutes.
It also introduces Volvo's latest safety technologies and user experience features, including Google built-in services. The EX60 is the first car to launch with Google Gemini-powered "conversational" AI functionality.
Sustainable upholstery options include bio-attributed Nordico, chrome-free Nappa leather certified by the Leather Working Group, and a Tailored Wool Blend made from 30% wool and 70% recycled polyester.
"The EX60 delivers on the true meaning of ‘Freedom to move’ for a fully electric era," says Volvo Cars New Zealand brand manager, Daile Stephens.
"It overcomes the three main reasons people hesitate to go all electric, range, charging speed and price. EX60 matches the range of a petrol car, charges as fast as your average fuel stop and has price parity with the XC60 plug-in-hybrid.
The EX60 will be available in NZ from November 2026, with pre-orders open now.
