The next-generation Audi Allroad (yes, Audi writes it with a small "a", but it looks silly and it's grammatically incorrect) has bulked up compared to the A6 Avant it's based on, and it's sticking with diesel power - albeit a new-generation 3.0-litre powerplant with mild hybrid ("MHEV plus" in Audi-speak) technology and an electric turbocharger.

Allroad sits 34mm higher than A6, but can also be adjusted up and down by a total of 55mm.

The new model is confirmed for Kiwi launch in early-2027. “The A6 Allroad is an icon in the Audi lineup and has always embodied an exceptionally capable vehicle for everyday use with genuine off‑road credentials. We are proud to offer a wagon that delivers the space, versatility and confidence many drivers seek in an SUV, while retaining the refinement, performance and on‑road dynamics that define Audi,” says Greg Leet, general manager of Audi NZ.

The new powerplant makes 220kW/580Nm, with an additional 18kW available from the MHEV plus system under certain driving conditions.

This is the first time the Allroad has been built with a wider body than the standard A6 Avant. It's gone elbows-out to the tune of 110mm, while allroad-specific adaptive air suspension gives it up to 34mm extra ground clearance, with another 55mm range of adjustment: higher for off-tarmac driving or lower for high-speed work.

There is no shortage of screens in any new-generation Audi model.

All-wheel steering is standard and can turn the rear wheels up to 5 degrees in the opposite direction to the front. At moderate and higher speeds, the rear wheels turn up to 2deg in the same direction as the front wheels.

Inside, the focus is on the Audi MMI panoramic display, featuring an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit display and a 14.5-inch touch display, supplemented by an additional 10.9-inch passenger screen.

Allroad has always been a bit cooler than your average SUV, mostly because it's lower.

The digital Matrix LED headlights can also be customised via the central display: There are eight digital daytime running light signatures, and the tail-light display changes in sync with them. While the headlights project the lane and orientation light and a slippery road warning onto the road via a micro-LED module, the digital OLED rear lights 2.0 "communicate with the surroundings", says Audi.

Comfort features including individual contoured seats with ventilation and massage functions, 4-zone automatic air conditioning, and an air quality package.

The dimmable panoramic glass roof also provides a choice between a light-filled cabin or degrees of shading.
