An electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz has completed a formidable real-world endurance run, covering 99,767km through 92 countries in 445 days.
The globetrotting ID. Buzz Pro also made 16 sea crossings and went through more than 300 charging cycles. Volkswagen says it completed the journey without a technical breakdown, despite experiencing a huge range of roads, climates and charging conditions.
That makes the trip more than a colourful travelogue. Long-term battery condition remains a key concern for electric-vehicle buyers, and this van has now provided an unusually demanding test case.
Independent testing by TÜV Nord measured the battery at 95.75% state of health after the tour. In other words, the battery retained the great majority of its original usable capacity after almost 100,000km of driving and hundreds of charges.
The vehicle was an ID. Buzz Pro fitted with an 86 kWh net-capacity battery. Volkswagen lists a WLTP driving range of 483km to 498km for this configuration, although real-world range naturally varies with speed, temperature, load and road conditions.
Its charging hardware supports DC charging at up to 200 kW. Under suitable conditions, Volkswagen says a 10% to 80% charge takes less than 30 minutes — an important capability on a journey requiring regular, rapid turnarounds across multiple charging networks.
The tour does not replicate normal ownership, but it does put the ID. Buzz through stresses most privately owned vehicles will never encounter. The strong battery-health result and absence of reported technical failures make it a useful demonstration of how a modern electric van can hold up under sustained use.
